On of the main goals was to visit some of the schools that are part of the target group of our project <em>Food for thought &#8211; better nutrition for children and youth<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Motivated teachers and students<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>At the Sirjana Community Secondary School (Annapurnu Rural Municipality, Kaski District) we met the teachers who are responsible for the project activities at the school. They were very positive and motivated about the project, and showed us the small kitchen gardens of the school, which they have initiated with the students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One teacher, Govinda Bhandari, told us about his experience with the project: <em>\"This project is very spendable for us. In our own times at school, we worked in the fields and that kept busy both our minds and bodies. Nowadays students are lazy, so when we started with this agricultural project they became more active. The students can gain money by selling the products from the gardens, and they are the ones buying materials for the kitchen gardens, which provides them with new knowledge, that they will be able to use in the future. So far, the students have planted different types of vegetables, and learned how to make organic fertilizers. A boy said that the students had taken part actively - both in the school gardens and at home, where some of the students had planted vegetables.<em>\" It is just healthier to eat home grown vegetables\",<\/em>he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Parents learn new techniques<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To mothers, who have their children enrolled in the school, also joined for a chat. One said hat she is a member of the school's management committee, and that she has two kids who are both students at the school.&nbsp; <em>\" I am really grateful for this project. The kids used to be lazy. but the project has made them much more active. They carry out all the work independently. They also know that it is better to eat fresh and home grown vegetables. Nepal is a poor country , and most of the poor people work in agriculture. Due to poverty, development is almost impossible.\"<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The other mother told us that she has a daughter who goes to school there. She thinks that the school has some very good activities, and she hopes that they will keep being held. <em>\"Our daughters have learned so much here. We didn't know much before. I was used to use artificial fertilizer but the teachers from the school has taught us that it isn't good, so we no longer use it. Now we know how to make organic pesticides and fertilizers using herbs, cow dung, and jaggery (dried sugar cane juice). Et af form\u00e5lene med bes\u00f8get var at bes\u00f8ge nogle af de skoler, som er m\u00e5lgruppe for vores projekt Food for thought &#8211; better nutrition for children and youth.&nbsp; Motiverede l\u00e6rere og elever P\u00e5 Sirjana Community Secondary School (Annapurnu Rural Municipality, Kaski-distriktet) m\u00f8dtes vi med de l\u00e6rere, som er ansvarlige for projektaktiviteterne p\u00e5 skolen. De var meget positive og motiverede for projektet, og de fremviste skolens sm\u00e5 k\u00f8kkenhaver, som de havde startet sammen med eleverne. Den ene l\u00e6rer, Govinda Bhandari, fortalte om hans oplevelse med projektet: \u201cDette projekt er meget brugbart for os. I vores egen studietid arbejdede vi i marken, og det holdt b\u00e5de krop og hoved i gang. I disse tider er eleverne dovne, s\u00e5 da vi startede dette landbrugsprojekt blev eleverne mere aktiveret. Eleverne kan tjene penge ved at s\u00e6lge afgr\u00f8derne fra haven, og de er selv med til at k\u00f8be materialer til k\u00f8kkenhaverne, hvilket giver dem ny viden, som de ogs\u00e5 kan bruge i fremtiden. De l\u00e6rer at v\u00e6re uafh\u00e6ngige, hvilket er vigtigt for os.\u201d Vi snakkede ogs\u00e5 med eleverne, som fortalte at de var medlemmer af skolens Eco-club, som er den, der arrangerer og udf\u00f8rer skolehave-aktiviteterne. Indtil videre havde eleverne plantet forskellige gr\u00f8ntsager og l\u00e6rt at lave organisk g\u00f8dning. En dreng fortalte, at eleverne havde deltaget aktivt &#8211; b\u00e5de i skolehaven, men ogs\u00e5 derhjemme, hvor nogle elever havde plantet gr\u00f8ntsager. \u201cDet er nemlig sundere at spise hjemmedyrkede gr\u00f8ntsager\u201d, sagde han. For\u00e6ldre l\u00e6rer nye metoder To m\u00f8dre, som har b\u00f8rn p\u00e5 skolen, kom ogs\u00e5 forbi til en snak. Den ene fortalte, at hun er medlem af skolens ledelsesudvalg, og hun har to b\u00f8rn, som begge er elever p\u00e5 skolen.&nbsp; \u201cJeg er meget taknemmelig for dette projekt. B\u00f8rnene plejede at v\u00e6re dovne, men projektet har gjort dem mere aktive. De g\u00f8r alt arbejdet selv. De ved ogs\u00e5, at det er bedst at spise friske og hjemmedyrkede gr\u00f8ntsager. Nepal er et fattigt land, og de fleste fattige mennesker arbejder i landbruget. P\u00e5 grund af fattigdom, s\u00e5 er udvikling n\u00e6sten umulig.\u201d Den anden mor fortalte, at hun har en datter, som g\u00e5r p\u00e5 skolen. Hun synes, at skolen har nogle rigtig gode aktiviteter, og hun h\u00e5ber, at de vil forts\u00e6tte. \u201cVores d\u00f8tre har l\u00e6rt s\u00e5 meget her. Vi vidste ingenting f\u00f8r. Jeg plejede at bruge kunstg\u00f8dning, men l\u00e6rerne p\u00e5 skolen har l\u00e6rt os, at det ikke er godt, s\u00e5 jeg bruger det ikke mere. Nu ved vi, hvordan man laver organiske pesticider og g\u00f8dning ved brug af urter, kom\u00f8g og jaggery (t\u00f8rret sukkerr\u00f8rssaft).
