{"id":1618,"date":"2017-07-10T07:33:44","date_gmt":"2017-07-10T07:33:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dib.dk\/?p=1618"},"modified":"2022-03-02T13:11:00","modified_gmt":"2022-03-02T12:11:00","slug":"to-fluer-med-et-smaek-i-nepal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dib.dk\/en\/to-fluer-med-et-smaek-i-nepal\/","title":{"rendered":"Two flies with a bang in Nepal"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Fly 1: Rounding off the climate project<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2.5 years go by, especially when you have a six-partner project that is being implemented in four countries. So while I think we are just about getting started, it is time to finish our climate project on advocacy for eco-village development in South Asia. True to the project, I had created a very ambitious agenda for the four days when all the partners could be gathered for project meetings in Nepal. Namely, it is easier said than done to assemble the troops even though a closing meeting does not come as the big surprise. To help me with the meetings and as a representative of DIB's Board of Directors, I had enticed Jeanette to Nepal. It was her first meeting with the partners and with Nepal in general and she quickly fell into our project group.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dib.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/meeting-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1624\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dib.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/meeting.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.dib.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/meeting-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.dib.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/meeting-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption>Our Nepalese partner CRT \/ N had arranged to have us installed in beautiful surroundings outside Kathmandu and if you were up really early, there was a good opportunity to see the nice view of the Himalayas. Otherwise it was mostly the meeting room we had a view of.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first two days we spent on rounding off the eco-village project. Here the partners were given the opportunity to present to the rest of the group what they had achieved in the project, what they still had to implement and give their assessment of the extent to which we had achieved our goals for the project. We reflected on and discussed the major changes the project had brought about, why and how the PANT principles (Participatory, Accountability, Non-discriminatory, Transparency) are relevant and to what extent they have been included in the project approach of the partners, as well as what important experiences we have had made us in the process and which we carry on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In general, we got around some interesting discussions and got a lot of experience with us for our next project on advocacy of scaling up local climate solutions in South Asia, which we spent the next two days getting started properly.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dib.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/emoji-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1625\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dib.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/emoji.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.dib.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/emoji-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.dib.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/emoji-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption>We also got \u201cemoji-evaluated\u201d on the collaboration between the project partners and with DIB as project coordinating organization. However, no one dared to overdo the dog shit emoji - after all, we have a new project running until next summer. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Fly 2: New project on scaling up local climate solutions<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the autumn, DIB approved a new project from the CISU's Climate and Environment Group with the same partners from the eco-village project in South Asia. The project builds on the initiatives, networks and knowledge of the eco-country village concept that was created in the project just completed. The focus of the project is, in short, to disseminate the eco-country village concept and other local climate solutions on a larger scale, including in partner countries' development strategies, when implementing the Paris Agreement and other relevant SDGs. And we have a good year to achieve that. But now we should have just finished our start-up meeting first and made sure that everyone was perfectly clean with the requirements from CISU, what we had written in the project document and how to approach the project. We spent the two days discussing activities and their content, creating a joint implementation plan and further developing our project indicators to make them more measurable and concrete. We got brainstormed on what we would like to achieve with the project in addition to the goals we had set in the project and we set some clear framework for the collaborative format and we got started working on a common communication strategy for the project.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although the time was scarce, the partners got a little break from all the meetings and instead tested their building skills with a really good collaboration with Lego. I have tried it twice now and it is definitely worth it to lug an extra bag of lego all the way to Nepal. In addition to being a fun exercise with lots of laughs and tacit frustrations, it is really exciting to see and reflect on afterwards how the different personalities tackle their task and collaborate with the others in the group.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dib.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/lego-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1627\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dib.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/lego.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.dib.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/lego-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.dib.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/lego-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption>The collaborative exercise with Lego blocks brought lots of laughter and subsequent reflection.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fifth and final day together was spent on visits to two of the three villages where CRT \/ N has implemented a handful of the various eco-village solutions. After an hour and a half drive in hilly terrain and mud, we arrived to Dhungkharka. Not all the partners were just used to driving in the mountains, at least one of our Bangladesh colleagues was happy to get out of the car. But it was quickly forgotten when we came out and walked in the villages and had the opportunity to see some of the demonstration units that have been built in the project and what has been done in previous projects. It was a short visit, but we got a look at their watermill, where they grind grain using hydropower, their irrigation system that also runs exclusively on hydropower and of the eco-land solutions we saw plastic greenhouses, solar cells and heard how they make organic fertilizers. At the same time we got to talk to some of the local people who have been involved in the project.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dib.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/evdvillage-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1626\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dib.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/evdvillage.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.dib.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/evdvillage-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.dib.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/evdvillage-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption>There was also time for field visits to the demonstration villages, where the EVD technologies have contributed to good progress.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then the trip to the small village of Chalal, which is also located in the Kavre district at the top of a small hill (as the Nepalese call it). This village was badly hit by the April 2015 earthquake and many of the houses have not been rebuilt yet. CRT \/ N has not had projects in this village before, so here they really had to start from the ground up to build good cooperation with the locals. Here too we could see the effects of the project. We visited several households that had made plastic greenhouses, small plastic lakes that are used for both fish farming and drainage of the fields and crops, solar cells, improved stove, waste bins, rainwater tanks, organic fertilizers, etc. and see how the eco-village development has taken shape in the villages, that it is sometimes difficult for the locals to have time to care for their fields. S\u00e5 selvom jeg synes, at vi n\u00e6sten lige er kommet i gang, s\u00e5 er det tid til at afslutte vores klimaprojekt omhandlende fortalervirksomhed for \u00f8kolandsby-udvikling i Sydasien.&nbsp;Tro mod projektet s\u00e5 havde jeg lavet en meget ambiti\u00f8s dagsorden for de fire dage, hvor alle partnerne kunne v\u00e6re samlet til projektm\u00f8der i Nepal. Det er nemlig lettere sagt end gjort at f\u00e5 samling p\u00e5 tropperne selvom et afsluttende m\u00f8de ikke kommer som den store overraskelse. Til at hj\u00e6lpe mig med afviklingen af m\u00f8derne og som repr\u00e6sentant for DIBs bestyrelse, havde jeg f\u00e5et lokket Jeanette med til Nepal.&nbsp;Det var hendes f\u00f8rste m\u00f8de med partnerne og med Nepal i \u00f8vrigt og hun faldt hurtigt ind i vores projektgruppe.&nbsp; De to f\u00f8rste dage brugte vi p\u00e5 at runde \u00f8kolandsby-projektet af. Her fik partnerne mulighed for at pr\u00e6sentere for resten af gruppen, hvad de havde opn\u00e5et i projektet, hvad de stadig manglede at implementere og give deres vurdering af, i hvor h\u00f8j grad vi havde opn\u00e5et vores m\u00e5ls\u00e6tninger for projektet. Vi fik reflekteret over og diskuteret de st\u00f8rste forandringer projektet havde medf\u00f8rt, hvorfor og hvordan PANT principperne (Participatory, Accountability, Non-discriminatory, Transparency) er relevante og i hvor h\u00f8j grad de har v\u00e6ret inkluderet i projekttilgangen hos partnerne samt, hvilke vigtige erfaringer vi havde f\u00e5et gjort os i processen og som vi tager med videre. Generelt s\u00e5 fik vi rundet nogle interessante diskussioner og taget en masse erfaring med os til n\u00e6ste projekt omhandlende fortalervirksomhed for opskalering af lokale klimal\u00f8sninger i Sydasien, som vi brugte de efterf\u00f8lgende to dage p\u00e5 at f\u00e5 sat ordentligt i gang.&nbsp; Flue 2: Nyt projekt om opskalering af lokale klimal\u00f8sninger DIB fik i efter\u00e5ret godkendt et nyt projekt fra CISUs Pulje for Klima og Milj\u00f8 med de samme partnere fra \u00f8kolandsby-projektet i Sydasien. Projektet&nbsp;bygger videre p\u00e5 de tiltag, netv\u00e6rk og kendskab til \u00f8kolandsbykonceptet, der er blevet skabt i det netop afsluttede projekt. Fokus for projektet er kort fortalt at f\u00e5 udbredt \u00f8kolandsbykonceptet og andre lokale klimal\u00f8sninger p\u00e5 st\u00f8rre skala, herunder i partnerlandenes udviklingsstrategier, n\u00e5r Paris&nbsp;Aftalen og andre relevante SDG\u2019er skal implementeres. Og det har vi godt og vel et \u00e5r til at n\u00e5.&nbsp;Men nu skulle vi lige have overst\u00e5et vores opstartsm\u00f8de f\u00f8rst og sikret at alle var helt p\u00e5 det rene med kravene fra CISU, hvad vi havde skrevet i projektdokumentet og hvordan vi skulle gribe projektet an. Vi brugte de to dage p\u00e5 at diskutere aktiviteter og deres indhold, p\u00e5 at lave en f\u00e6lles implementeringsplan og videreudviklet p\u00e5 vores projektindikatorer, s\u00e5 de blev mere m\u00e5lbare og konkrete. Vi fik brainstormet p\u00e5, hvad vi gerne ville opn\u00e5 med projektet udover de m\u00e5l vi havde sat os i projektet og vi fik sat nogle klare rammer for samarbejdsformatet og vi fik igangsat arbejdet med at lave en f\u00e6lles kommunikationsstrategi for projektet.&nbsp; Selvom tiden var knap s\u00e5 fik partnerne et lille afbr\u00e6k fra alle m\u00f8derne og fik i stedet afpr\u00f8vet deres byggeskills med&nbsp;en&nbsp;virkelig god samarbejds\u00f8velse med lego. Jeg har pr\u00f8vet den to gange nu, og det er helt sikkert det hele v\u00e6rd at sl\u00e6be en ekstra taske lego med helt til Nepal. Udover at det er en sjov \u00f8velse med masser grin og stiltiende frustrationer, s\u00e5 er det virkelig sp\u00e6ndende at se og reflektere over efterf\u00f8lgende, hvordan de forskellige personligheder tackler deres opgave og samarbejder med de andre i gruppen.&nbsp;&nbsp; Den femte og sidste dag sammen blev brugt p\u00e5 bes\u00f8g i to af de tre landsbyer, hvor CRT\/N har implementeret en h\u00e5ndfuld af de forskellige \u00f8kolandsby-l\u00f8sninger.&nbsp;Efter en halvandentimes&nbsp;k\u00f8retur&nbsp;i bakket terr\u00e6n og mudder&nbsp;ankom vi til Dhungkharka. Det var ikke alle partnerne, der var lige vant til at k\u00f8re i bjergene, \u00e9n af vores kollegaer fra Bangladesh var i hvert fald glad for at komme ud af bilen i god behold. Men det var hurtig glemt, da vi kom ud og g\u00e5 i landsbyerne og havde mulighed&nbsp;for at&nbsp;at se nogle af de demonstrations-units, der er blevet opf\u00f8rt i projektet og hvad, der er blevet lavet i tidligere projekter. Det var et kort bes\u00f8g, men vi fik kigget p\u00e5 deres vandm\u00f8lle, hvor de kv\u00e6rner korn ved hj\u00e6lp af vandkraft, deres vandingssystem der ogs\u00e5 udelukkende k\u00f8rer p\u00e5 vandkraft&nbsp;og af \u00f8kolandsbyl\u00f8sningerne s\u00e5 vi plastikdrivhuse, solceller og h\u00f8rt hvordan de fremstillinger&nbsp;organisk g\u00f8dning. Samtidig fik vi snakket med&nbsp;nogle af de lokale folk, der har v\u00e6ret involveret i projektet.&nbsp; Derefter gik turen til den lille landsby&nbsp;Chalal, der ogs\u00e5 ligger i Kavre distriktet p\u00e5 toppen af en lille bakke (som nepaleserne kalder det). Denne landsby blev h\u00e5rdt ramt af jordsk\u00e6lvet tilbage i april 2015 og mange af husene er ikke blevet genopbygget endnu. CRT\/N har ikke haft projekter i denne landsby tidligere, s\u00e5 her har de virkelig skulle starte fra bunden med at f\u00e5 opbygget et godt samarbejde med de lokale. Ogs\u00e5 her kunne vi se effekterne af projektet. Vi bes\u00f8gte flere husholdninger som havde f\u00e5et lavet plastikdrivhuse, sm\u00e5 plastiks\u00f8er, der bruges b\u00e5de til fiskeopdr\u00e6t og afvanding af markerne og afgr\u00f8der, solceller, forbedrede komfur, affaldskurve, regnvandstanke, organisk g\u00f8dning m.m..
